All kinds of Stuff
May 21st, 2008 • Category: BlogMay 14, 2008
I know, I know, I need to keep up on my blog more. Trust me, I want to, but I am so tired at night and it seems to be my only time to do stuff. Blaisen is 3.5 months now and life is getting a bit easier but it seems I am always going; from 6am to 9pm, no down time. When one child is asleep the other is awake so it is a constant change up. WOW! I use to think I wanted 3 kids, but let me tell you now, no way; two is plenty. So, I have all these topics that I have wanted to talk about. So I have decided this blog is going to be my mind dump blog. I am going to get all the stuff that I have wanted to share out of my brain. Here goes!
First Thought
I want to give a BIG thanks to several people out there. With the new baby and not having any family around (my mom and dad are 5 hours away) I have many friends who are helping me to get in the best shape possible for the start line of October 11, 2008. I want to give a shout out to some of those pepple.
Pam Courcier…she gives Gabriella the BEST play dates with her son Mason that sometimes Gabriella does not want to come home with me. Pam and Barton live just down the street, we are so fortunate to have such awesome neighbors. THANKS PAM!
Rachel Holt…she will do a pick up for me if I am running late! It is great that our two toddlers (Ian and Gabriella) have known each other since birth, go to the same day care, and will be going to the same pre-school this summer. Rachel also lives close by so we also train together at times (when we can leave the kids with the dads). Thanks Rach for getting me out there on the bike and the run!
Michael Crockett…keeping me cool in the head, training with me in the pool and running. We have become good friends over the past few years..he also was part of the Kona crew in 06 and generously volunteered his room for me the night before the race so I would get a good nights sleep (I didn’t have to sleep with my daughter that night). Thanks Michael!
Teresa Deveaux…she invited me to go see Bon Jovi with her last month. I accpeted, my first night out since the baby was born. As we got to the HP Pavilion she said not to worry we were late because we already had our seats. So, when we got in and started walking to our seats, you can imagine how in SHOCK I was as we walked to the second row on the floor! IT WAS AWESOME! I liked Bon Jovi as a kid, Living on a Prayer has some sentimental meaning (of course I was a senior in High school at the time so you can imagine the memories) but now that I have seen him in concert I like him even more. I even downloaded some of his stuff onto my Ipod. Teresa only knows how to live at the front of the bus and every now and then I get to ride shotgun! Did I mention she is a big wig at Microsoft and is an Irongirl! Not to mention she is Gabriella’s god mother and had Gabriella for a sleep over. Thanks Teresa!
Second Thought
First month of training: I would say was very successful. After being doored, I can proudly say I have managed 17 rides with no drama! YAHOO. I am MUCH stronger on the bike than I thought I would be at this point. I have not ridden since July 07 so I was expecting to be pretty rusty-but I am far from that. I am looking forward to getting back to my rides with my coach again. The run is coming along as well. I still have about 6 pounds or so to lose. I think once I am done breastfeeding that weight will go quickly. I am starting to get back some muscle strength but I still have a ways to go. My swim is a little behind but I know once I commit to swimming 3-4 days a week it should come back without a problem. I still need to get in the gym more, time is my biggest challenge. I have managed a few weeks this month of 15 hours of training. All my workouts are sensation gathering, not going too hard, just trying to get a feel for training. I do have a few areas that are loose from the baby so I have to be careful with that. I also am now working on a TRX www.fitnessanywhere.com I will keep you posted on how I like it once I get a few more workouts on it in.
Third Thought
Racing: I will be racing this weekend at UVAS triathlon in Morgan Hill. At the end of the month I will be heading to Honu 70.3 to test the waters at a half Ironman. My training is much farther ahead of where I thought I might be but I am still having some post baby issues that I need to be conservative with. I am still breastfeeding and it seems my body is in the push/pull with itself trying to stay mellow for the baby and then trying to go hard when I ask it to. So it seems that I get caught in the middle, not really able to get the heart rate as high. It is almost like I am in a constant state of tiredness. I am pretty certain this will all change when the breastfeeding stops as well as lose the last 5lbs that I have. I look at it like this; it is like when I was swimming in college, swimming with 2-3 suits, not shaving my legs, lots of drag. So when I am ready to taper all cylinders will be going like never before.
Fourth Thought
Family: The family is doing great. Chris is so supportive more than he has ever been. We tag team a lot with the kids and we are riding together more than we ever have. He helps me with my TT efforts; it has been a great bonus having him beside me. Blaisen will be 4 months at the end of the month and he seems to be doing great. We are still struggling with a schedule, some days I feel like Blaisen is starting to get one and other days it seems like he is all over the map. I have started to slowly wean on the breastfeeding. It is a little harder on me than it was with Gabriella, she seemed to not really care and when I made it to 6 months it was like she said “thank god” let’s move on. Blaisen is much more snuggly and loving, so we are taking our time a bit more. He still has the GERD which is also difficult. I made him a make shift barcalounger for the crib, which he seems to love. But the poor guy never gets belly time as every time he does he pukes. I feel like he is never going to roll over or anything because we always have him in an upright position. Other than that we are all good, Gabriella is potty trained now and starting to enjoy being a ”big girl”. It is all very cool :)
OTHER STUFF
I have a new sponsor www.tribiketransport.com I met with Marc and his co-worker Kate last night for dinner. I am very excited to be working for a company that is rocking and rolling. Tribike is a bike transport company that helps you get your bike to and from races without the hassle of having to take your bike yourself. You don’t even have to take the bike apart (just the pedals)-you just drop it off at a bike shop they have for selected areas and it shows up at your race all ready to go. Pretty cool. I will have more to come on this but for now I wanted to get it out there that I am SO VERY EXCITED to be working with them!
My website is up and running and from today on I will be posting my blog from that site. I am in desperate need of someone helping me keep this up, if there is anyone out there who wants to help please e-mail me at gina@ginakehr.com
Check out www.workoutmommy.com I had an interview with Lisa, a workout queen gone mommy trying to help moms stay motivated to workout while having a family. It is a great site.
That is it for now, I have so much more I want to say but I can’t remember it all now. When I workout is when I come up with the best topics, I need a tape recorder during my workouts….
Train Hard and of course…
LET IT GO!
